As part of the West Side Electrical Undergrounding Project, City of Southport, AT&T, and Spectrum crews will begin moving overhead utilities to underground conduit on Lord Street from W. Saint George Street to W. Bay Street, then along W. West Street from N. Howe Street to past Morningstar Marina.

We estimate the Lord Street portion of this project to be completed by January 2024. Crews will then begin work on the W. West Street portion of the project.

We apologize for any inconvenience that may occur while the Undergrounding Project is underway. We will notify residents of any upcoming road closures via the City website and official City social media channels.

Please be aware of crews working in these areas and use extra caution. We appreciate your understanding.

If you have any questions about the West Side Electrical Undergrounding Project, please contact Electrical Superintendent Ellie Pittenger at (910) 457-7938 or [email protected].

In accordance with due diligence and best practices, BEMC as Contractors to the City’s Electric System will have Survey Crews out on the West Side of City outlining property lines, easements, and rights of way to begin preparation for the West Side Overhead Electric to Underground Conversion Project. The outlining may include survey flags.

All Electric Utilities from West Bay Street to West Saint George Street and from Howe Street to Burrington Avenue will be placed underground.

We anticipate this project to begin within the next 4-8 weeks.
