The Board of Aldermen met on Tuesday, March 28, 2023, to discuss some proposed legislation that the NC Senate and House of Representatives are currently considering. The proposed language would remove a municipality’s ability to regulate certain Planning and Zoning requirements for short-term rentals, workforce housing, some plan reviews, and accessory dwelling units. The Board of Aldermen unanimously voted in favor of staff drafting a Resolution in opposition to the proposed bills. The Mayor will deliver the Resolution in person to Representative Charlie Miller and Senator Bill Rabon on March 29th. The Board encourages all Southport residents to contact any NC Senators and Representatives to oppose the proposed bills.
