SOUTHPORT UTILITY CUSTOMERS TO SEE IMMEDIATE REDUCTION IN UTILITY RATES
Southport, NC – In anticipation of the merger of Southport’s water and sewer utilities with Brunswick County later this year, the Southport Board of Aldermen approved an immediate reduction of utility rates.
Southport’s water and sewer rates have been reduced, effective with the February 2024 bill, to be as close as possible to the current Brunswick County rates. Because Southport and Brunswick County use different billing systems, the new lower Southport rates are very similar to the County’s rates but are not exact.
Southport will continue to apply these lower rates until the merger is completed, and billing is assumed by Brunswick County. After the merger is completed, the County will begin charging its prevailing rates.
