FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
CITY OF SOUTHPORT
City of Southport to Host Summer Markets
In response to Downtown Southport Inc’s (DSI) decision to forego the 2024 Spring Festival and cancel the Southport Summer Markets for 2024, Southport Parks and Recreation, in collaboration with the Southport Community Relations Department, proudly announces its commitment to continue hosting the Summer Markets.
“We plan to hold the markets near Franklin Square Park, by closing a portion of East West Street, behind the Southport City Gym and Fire Department Annex, both of which are not on Franklin Square Park property.” Said Heather Hemphill, Director of Southport Parks and Recreation. The closure of a portion of East West Street serves as a creative solution to overcome space constraints.
While acknowledging the limitation of available space, the city expresses gratitude for finding a viable solution that allows residents and visitors alike to enjoy the tradition initiated by DSI. Despite the reduced number of vendors compared to previous years, the Summer Markets promise an atmosphere filled with charm and local flair.
Southport encourages all residents and visitors to join in supporting local vendors and savoring the unique charm that the Summer Markets bring to the heart of the city.
