Southport, NC – On Saturday, September 27, 2025, at approximately 9:30 PM, members of the Southport Police Department were dispatched to calls of shots fired with multiple injuries at the American Fish Company, located at 150 Yacht Basin Dr, Southport, NC 28461.

Updated information now confirms that there were three fatalities and six injuries. All victims have been identified below:

  • The three fatally wounded victims are:
    • Solomon Banjo, 36, Charlottesville, VA
    • Joy Rogers, 64, Southport, NC
    • Michael Durbin, 56, Galena, OH
  • The six injured victims have been released from the hospital and are:
    • Jackson Schurtz, 38, Afton, VA
    • William Parent, 64, Oak Island, NC
    • John Barlow, 63, Amityville, NY
    • Lauren Buscher, 54, Wheaton, IL
    • Thomas Lafferty, 58, Oak Island, NC
    • Tammy Hirt-Huff, 59, Oak Island, NC

It is asked that the public be respectful of these victims, their families, and their privacy as they try to navigate this difficult situation.

The investigation is still active; however, further updates will be provided directly by the City of Southport as they become available.

We witnessed immense acts of bravery by many citizens who rendered aid to the injured and helped evacuate others from the scene, and we thank you. We appreciate the continued support and cooperation from the community we have received since Saturday.

Previously released information:

The suspect, Nigel Max Edge, has been arrested and charged with three counts of first-degree murder, counts of attempted first-degree murder, and five accounts of assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill, inflicting serious injury. The suspect’s probable cause hearing has been scheduled for October 13, 2025, at the Brunswick County Courthouse.
