FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

CITY OF SOUTHPORT

City of Southport Partners with TextMyGov

Southport, NC – The City of Southport is pleased to announce the launch of TextMyGov, https://textmygov.com/, text alerts! After months of planning, we are eager to unveil a tool to ensure all City of Southport residents get important information quickly and conveniently, while also providing the ability for residents to text the city with various questions or concerns.

The City of Southport will officially launch the new text system on August 26, 2024. You may receive a text notification from the number 91896. This is a legitimate text from the City of Southport, North Carolina. Residents who receive the initial text message will also benefit from localized alerts, which provide information about issues specific to their area. Users may opt-out at any time by texting STOP.

If you DO NOT receive the initial text message, you can opt-in by texting “SOUTHPORT” to the number 91896, you will be prompted to reply with “YES” to complete the opt-in process. Residents can expect text message notifications about Emergency Alerts, Upcoming Events, Newsletter Announcements, Important Deadlines, and General Announcements. Residents will also have the ability to text City of Southport representatives with questions and/or concerns and receive a swift response.

Public Information Officer ChyAnn Ketchum states “I am excited to introduce such a robust system that will enable another form of two-way communication from the city and our residents. We will begin to filter out CodeRED notifications over the next few months as we complete the implementation and training on TextMyGov.”

“This tool enables the City to be on the cutting edge of information exchange to provide swift problem-solving responses to our citizens, which is our primary goal. I commend the Public Information Officer, Ms. Ketchum, on launching this program and placing us in the forefront of technological application,” states City Manager Stuart Turille, Jr.

The City of Southport is excited about this new technology, and we look forward to keeping our residents even more informed. Other governmental entities across the country are utilizing this system with great success. If you have questions or need help, please contact Public Information Officer ChyAnn Ketchum at cketchum@cityofsouthport.com or (910) 269-7300.
