SOUTHPORT BECOMES NOAA WEATHER-READY NATION AMBASSADOR

Southport, NC – As we know, June 1st began the Atlantic Hurricane Season. This year, as we continue preparation and outreach, we are pleased to announce that City of Southport has recently been selected to join the NOAA Weather-Ready Nation Ambassador initiative.

About Weather-Ready Nation Ambassadors: “The Weather-Ready Nation Ambassador™ initiative is the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s (NOAA) effort to formally recognize NOAA partners who are improving the nation’s readiness, responsiveness, and overall resilience against extreme weather, water, and climate events. As a WRN Ambassador, partners commit to working with NOAA and other Ambassadors to strengthen national resilience against extreme weather. In effect, the WRN Ambassador initiative helps unify the efforts across government, non-profits, academia, and private industry toward making the nation more ready, responsive, and resilient against extreme environmental hazards.”

Communications/Public Information Officer ChyAnn Ketchum states that she applied for the ambassadorship with the hope that the City will be able to strengthen our outreach even more for residents and community members. Being a WRN Ambassador adds Southport to a resilient community network to further educate, prepare, respond, and recover from extreme events.

Mayor Hatem expressed that he is excited for the new partnership with NOAA and knows that our residents and community will be even more prepared during severe weather events.
