Southport Police Department 2022 Shop with a Cop

Southport Police hosting Shop with A Cop Program again this year.

The Southport Police Department is accepting applications, as well as donations, for Shop with a Cop, the program that helps families in need during the holidays.

Applications for families living in the 28461-zip code are on the Southport city website here and can be completed online or may be dropped off in person at the Police Department, located at 1029 North Howe Street. They must be received no later than December 9. Families will be notified of their acceptance.

Officers will distribute gift cards to the accepted applicants at the Southport Walmart on Saturday, December 17, for their shopping day to take place between 9 a.m. and noon. If kids need some help shopping, Southport’s friendly officers and a few of their friends will be on hand to assist.

Area residents who are in the giving spirit this season can donate by bringing a check to the police department with “Shop with a Cop”  in the memo line.

The Shop-with-a-Cop Concert is happening again this year featuring the Back Porch Rockers from 6 to 8 p.m. on Monday, December 5, at Franklin Square Park at the corner of Howe and East West streets. This event helps to raise funds for the Shop-with-a-Cop program, and everyone is invited to come to the park to enjoy some great music and company.

Shop with a Cop is typically first come-first served, and the number of families accepted depends on the amount of money raised. Last year, the department helped more than 140 children have a merrier Christmas, and it hopes to assist even more this year.

If you have any questions about the program, please contact the Southport Police Department Clerk, Allison Scouler at [email protected] or 910-457-7911.
