Neighbors 4 Neighbors
When you join Neighbors 4 Neighbors, your contribution will help provide assistance for our neighbors that are struggling to pay the increase in sewer charges in our service area. After hearing from our citizens that the increase in the sewer bill has presented a hardship for some residents, the City of Southport Board of Aldermen has agreed to make a contribution to establish a fund and your donation dollars will enable us help as many residents as possible. Your monthly contribution could be as little as $5 each month (or as much as you would like) but every dollar will make a difference. Now is your opportunity to make a difference in the lives of your neighbors with your contribution!
As a voluntary contributor, you choose a set dollar amount you would like to contribute by completing and signing the Neighbors 4 Neighbors Agreement form. Once received, this amount will be added to your regular monthly water/sewer bill. Or, choose to make a donation directly to the fund at any time by check or cash.
Please remember, you can opt out of the program at any time. Brunswick Family Assistance (BFA) will screen all neighbors who apply for assistance.
Here is a summary of how the funds will be distributed:
- Southport residents can apply for assistance of up to $20 each month (maximum of $240 per year) with their current sewer bill by contacting Brunswick Family Assistance directly. An Intake Specialist for BFA will be available every Wednesday at Trinity United Methodist Church, 209 E Nash St, from 9:30-11:30 AM. They can also be reached by phone at 910-754-4766 or by visiting their office in Shallotte at 4600-10 Main St.
- Applicants will be screened to determine if they qualify for assistance. Upon qualification, the $20 contribution will be applied by the City of Southport Utility department to the designated utility account.
- If the applicant qualifies for ongoing assistance, they simply contact BFA (in person or via phone) each month to inform them the additional assistance is needed. No need to reapply each month.
If you would like to join Neighbors 4 Neighbors as a donor, please use the agreement form below to submit, or download the form. Please send (or drop off) the signed form to our office at 1029 N Howe Street, Southport, NC 28461.
