Southport Historical Society’s Annual Living Voices of the Past

October 22, 2022 @ 2:00 pm - 4:00 pm

The Old Smithville Burying Ground is always interesting to explore, but it’s even more fascinating if you can catch one of the special Living Voices of the Past events. Please join us to meet several historic Southport characters who will “come to life” to tell you their stories. Hear about the real history of Southport through the eyes of these local icons. No reservations are required. A suggested cash donation of $5 helps support educational programs at the Old Smithville Burying Ground and the adjacent Old Brunswick County Jail Museum.

Some of the characters you’ll meet:

Jessie Stevens Taylor
Southport’s Weather Observer who was credited with saving hundreds of lives

Sonny Dosher
Old Baldy Lighthouse Keeper

Juli Newton
Daughter of Southport’s premier artist, Art Newton

Katie Piver Farmer Cox
Survivors of the 1918 Flu Pandemic

Mary Ann Kirker Woodlawn
A woman with a secret

Leonard T. Yaskell
The Pennsylvania Yankee who Became Southport’s Mayor

And more!!!
