6 PM: African American Storyteller Carolyn Evans, “Sojourner Truth” African American evangelist, abolitionist, women’s rights activist, and author born into slavery before escaping to freedom in 1826. After gaining independence, Truth preached about abolitionism and equal rights for all.

Saturday FEBRUARY 18,2023

  • 11 AM: OPENING
  • 12 NOON-1 PM: NC Maritime Museum at Southport manager, John Moseley, “ The 54th Coast Artillery Regiment” One of three African American units to train at Camp Davis, NC during World War II.
  • 2 PM-3 PM: Judge Pauline Hankins, “LAW AND JUSTICE”
  • 4 PM-5 PM: Judy Smith Fowler, “QUILTING IN THE AFRICAN AMERICAN COMMUNITY”

SUNDAY FEBUARY 19, 2023

  • 3 PM-6 PM: GOSPEL FEST, Hosted by Mrs. Gwen Wearren
