The City of Southport has an opening in the Fire Department. The Shift Captain is a full-time permanent position in the Fire Department. The immediate supervisor for this position is the Battalion Chief of Operations. The person in this position is supervised daily regarding briefings and task assignments. The person in this position works autonomously, conferring daily with his/her immediate supervisor. The person in this position works 24-hour shifts, and will be on the ambulance, but may also perform firefighting duties as well. The employee will also be working two to three times a month attending various training/business meetings of the department held in the evenings. The employee will perform duties for the Southport Fire Department as related to directing a variety of departmental activities to include fire suppression, fire prevention and education programming, and emergency medical response to protecting the lives and property of the citizens from fire damage and injury. The Shift Captain focuses on emergency medical services planning, organizing, and service while also assisting with fire-related matters. The person in this position must have a valid North Carolina driver’s license, NC Fire Fighter 1 & 2 certification, EMT-Advanced is preferred, EMT – Basic is required. EMT-A must be obtained within 1 year of hire. Fire Officer and/or EMS officer required, Emergency Vehicle Driver Certification required, must obtain and maintain yearly CPR certifications.
