Public Notice

The City of Southport is seeking applicants for an appointment on the Historic Preservation Commission. Applications will now be accepted until October 5, 2022.

The Historic Preservation Commission will act similarly to a quasi-judicial board. They will take an inventory of properties that have historical, archaeological, architectural, and cultural significance. The Commission will review and act on proposals for alterations, additions, and other projects in the Historic District/s. The Commission will also help select local districts, significant structures, and work with property owners to help protect and preserve the heritage of the City of Southport.

Applicants must reside in the City limits. Seven full members and two alternates will be appointed. The appointments will have staggered terms initially with a full-term being three years.

Applicants shall have demonstrated education, experience, and special interest in historic preservation, architecture, architectural history, archaeology, cultural anthropology, planning, or another related field.
